“Now He is not the God of the dead but of the living; for all live to Him.” (1)
Reflecting on Easter from a child’s view has a different meaning than it does for me today. In those young years I recall all the festivities. Dying Easter eggs, the annual Easter egg hunt, and the surprise of an Easter basket full of goodies by my bed in the morning were all part of Easter. My basket was filled with chocolate bunnies, jelly beans and marshmallow bunnies which I proudly put on display to show and tell to anyone within ear shot of what the Easter bunny left me. My mom dressed me in satin, with frilly lace, and shiny patent leather shoes, along with a fancy colorful hat. My happiness was in material things that God graciously blessed our family with as my parents saw their children’s eyes sparkle with delight. Later in life, things changed and my parents developed a more spiritual meaning for celebrating Easter and began to live to Jesus.
“…for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.” (2)
As I’ve grown, Easter has taken on a more significant meaning. When God opened my eyes to spiritual matters, my world changed. I realized how Jesus is Lord over “all”. At conversion, I had a new awakening…I belonged to the Lord. I was called to be one of His own. As I began to grow in my spiritual walk, slowly maturing by aligning my attitudes and actions to pattern after Christ, I learned He is worth living for. It is to this purpose I live…to Him! How different life became. Each day living to honor God with a heart of thanksgiving to Jesus, Who, because of His death, has put me in right standing with the Heavenly Father. I find God’s perfect love is my purest joy. That is why daily, I invite Jesus into every part of my life…living every moment for Him! Experiencing Jesus is enjoying all the good things He’s provided for each believer.
When I was a child, Easter was an external display of things. Today I find the beauty of what Jesus has accomplished on the cross a far greater joy. It is the inner qualities of “Christ-likeness” that has transformed me, bringing refreshment and satisfaction with life.
It’s Easter! How will you celebrate this holy season? Will you put Jesus in His rightful place and live for Him?
Blessed be the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest. This day and forever more I commit to live for You. You are worthy, Lord. Amen.
